I recently had the opportunity to talk briefly with Lenne Hardt, the voice of Claudia from Silent Hill 3. Here is what she had to say.

Lenne, originally from New York City, moved to Japan in 1988 and has since established herself as one of the best in her field. In addition to her role in Silent Hill 3, Lenne has acted on TV, stage, radio, film, games and is a ring side announcer for the popular Japanese martial arts competition, Pride. Lenne produces the Tokyo Comedy Store and teaches acting through her own school, Encore Planning & Production.

CrAsH: Hi, Lenne, how are you?

Lenne: Fine thank you (CrAsH), and you?

CrAsH: I'm great, thanks.  How and when did you first become involved in the Silent Hill series?

Lenne: I was hired through an agency.  Dont remember exactly how long ago.  A couple of years I guess

CrAsH: When recording, did you ever work directly with Mr. Akira Yamaoka?

Lenne: no

CrAsH: Why do the credits name Donna Burke as the voice of Claudia and your name as simply "voice actor"?

Lenne: Sometimes  they get it wrong.  For example, at one site the list me as doing the voice or Guixiang on Silent Hill, but I did that character on Shenmue II, not Silent Hill.  I know Donna and she did the character for the Motion Capture, (do you know what that is?) but not the voice.  The voice was me.

CrAsH:  When playing Claudia, what was your favorite and least favorite aspects of her character?

Lenne: Tell the truth I cant recall

CrAsH:  Have you ever played any of the Silent Hill games?

Lenne: Before you reminded me of it I had forgotten I'd done this one.  (SH3) Don't remember if I did others.

CrAsH: How has this role affected your career?

Lenne: It hasn't much.

CrAsH: Did you audition for a part in Silent Hill 4?

Lenne: Sometimes auditions are required for jobs like these and sometimes they use you because they already know you or choose you from your sample CD.  Don't remember which it was for this one.  Think it was that they remembered.  I do a lot for Konami as well as for Sega.

CrAsH: I know you can't disclose any more information if the answer is yes, but if you did audition, will you be playing a character in Silent Hill 4?

Lenne: Havent heard yet.

CrAsH: What kind of background do they give you on your character prior to recording?

Lenne: A character synopsis sheet.

CrAsH: Is there anything special you like to do to prepare for a role like this? I mean, if you haven't played the game, do they give you a summary of the story thus far? (The Silent Hill concept is kind of complicated)

Lenne: They explain the story to a degree.

CrAsH: Tell us about yourself - what else have you acted in?

Lenne: I have done a lot of voice, stage, TV and film work for more than 3 decades.

CrAsH: I've noticed that many of the Silent Hill voice actors are also singers. Are you?

Lenne: Yes.

CrAsH: What have you gotten from this experience? Would you return to the series?

Lenne: Sure I would do it again.

CrAsH: Any advice for those of us that might want to participate in the making of Silent Hill?

Lenne: Well, unless you are interested in living in JapanI assume you dontit would be a bit difficult.

CrAsH: Actually, I would love to live there...hmmm... Well, thank you for your time, Lenne, I'm sure you're very busy. Best of luck in your career and we hope to hear your voice again soon! ^_^

Lenne: No problem, and best wishes to you too, (CrAsH).
